Promoting the Development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Partnerships in Vietnam

From 10–11 February, the Da Nang Innovation Startup Support Center (DISSC) held working sessions with representatives of the Asia Sustainable Aviation Fuel Association (ASAFA) and Star Consulting to exchange views, strengthen partnerships, and promote green economic development and innovation in the sustainable energy sector.

ASAFA is Asia’s first independent, neutral, and non-profit industry association dedicated to advancing the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and deep decarbonization across the aviation sector, in alignment with global climate objectives under the Paris Agreement. Established in 2024 and headquartered in Singapore, ASAFA brings together the entire aviation fuel ecosystem—including airlines, fuel producers, technology licensors, investors, OEMs, and policymakers—to enable large-scale decarbonized aviation operations.

During the working session with DISSC, ASAFA and Star Consulting also discussed plans to jointly organize a Sustainable Aviation Fuel Forum in Da Nang in the near future.

Overview
Overview

In line with its strategic direction, and in collaboration with Star Consulting, the Da Nang Innovation Startup Support Center (DISSC) will operationalize the vision of positioning Da Nang as an innovation-driven and sustainable city by hosting a specialized international forum on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The forum is scheduled for May 2026 and is expected to convene policymakers, green economy investors, industry experts, enterprises, and innovators to advance global sustainable development, safeguard Vietnam’s ecological environment, and contribute to building a stable, green growth economy for the city.

The event is anticipated to be the first international forum in Vietnam dedicated to innovation initiatives and policy dialogue in the sustainable aviation fuel sector—an area attracting significant global attention. The program is expected to showcase initiatives, best practices, and successful projects in sustainable fuel development implemented in countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Brazil, and across Europe.

The forum will also facilitate engagement with leading international experts to share practical experience in deploying advanced technologies for next-generation fuel production. Moreover, it will create opportunities to connect with global investors, leverage recycled feedstock resources, and progressively integrate Da Nang into the global value chain of sustainable, low-carbon aviation fuels. In addition, the forum will feature exhibition booths presenting innovative solutions and emerging technologies in the green energy sector.

Participation in organizing the forum underscores Da Nang’s strong commitment to achieving its sustainable development objectives, while reaffirming the city’s proactive role in delivering on emissions reduction commitments and advancing the energy transition agenda.

During the working session, the Asia Sustainable Aviation Fuel Association (ASAFA) and Star Consulting signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing a strategic partnership, witnessed by the Da Nang Innovation Startup Support Center (DISSC).

Under the agreement, the two parties will collaborate to organize seminars, forums, and training programs on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and green aviation development in Vietnam and across the region. ASAFA will take the lead on technical content and international expert engagement, while Star Consulting will be responsible for local coordination and connecting with the domestic business ecosystem.

The signing marks the commencement of in-depth cooperation in the SAF sector and highlights DISSC’s role as a strategic facilitator, bridging international initiatives with the city’s development priorities.

In addition, together with the Da Nang Innovation Startup Support Center (DISSC), the delegation from the Asia Sustainable Aviation Fuel Association (ASAFA) and Star Consulting conducted site visits and working sessions at Da Nang International Airport (DIA) and Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR). The meetings focused on exchanging information, sharing international best practices, and discussing innovation pathways, green transition strategies, and sustainable industrial development initiatives related to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

In the coming period, DISSC will continue to work closely with its partners to operationalize the agreed areas of cooperation, foster the development of a collaborative network in the sustainable aviation fuel sector, and gradually lay the groundwork for Da Nang’s deeper integration into regional and global green economy and sustainable development value chains.
